Misdemeanor Division

The Misdemeanor Division is responsible for all cases where the maximum penalty cannot exceed a year in jail. This includes traffic, domestic violence, driving under the influence (DUI), underage drinking, drug possession and others. Additionally, the Misdemeanor Division also assists certain eligible victims in filing for Orders of Protection.

Unlike with felonies, the local law enforcement agencies generally file their own misdemeanor charges. Once filed, these cases are initially heard at area dockets that include Edwardsville, Alton, Granite City, Highland and Collinsville. If a jury trial is demanded by the defendant, they are heard in Edwardsville.
