Domestic Violence
Special Prosecution Unit

Nearly 1/3 of American women have reported being physically or sexually abused by a husband or boyfriend at some point in their lives. The Madison County State's Attorney's Office takes this statistic very seriously and is committed to protecting the victims of domestic violence. The office has dedicated the staff time of five of its Assistant State's Attorneys to assisting victims of domestic violence and works very hard to keep these professionals well-trained so they may help victims in the best way possible. Through the Third Juridical Circuit Family Violence Coordinating Council, the Domestic Violence prosecution team receives up-to-date training on domestic violence issues and trends and networks with other agencies throughout the County to help aid them in successfully prosecuting such crimes.

If you, or someone you know, is the victim of domestic violence, contact the police department immediately. An Order of Protection is one option to help aid in the protection of victims.
