Child Support DivisionThe Child Support Division is responsible for establishing paternity, child support determination and enforcement of court-ordered child support payments. The Division is funded by the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (DFS). The interests of DFS are represented in court as the staff's main goals are establishing and collecting current and back child support for children less than eighteen years of age, after proper paternity has been established. Various remedies available to the division include holding a parent in contempt of court for lack of payment, liens and attachments on personal property of the parent and garnishments that allow for an attachment to a parent's unemployment benefits.
